This was our first ever market stall back in June 2015. Hitchin market is where we learnt a lot about how to set up, what equipment we needed and more importantly what people wanted! A great bunch of friendly people here, lots of stalls and on a good day it was very busy.
It did take a bit of convincing with some of the locals in Hitchin market though, as not everyone had ever tried pulled pork before, let alone real American style low & slow BBQ. We went around handing out lots of samples, which definitely drew people in. Once people knew about it, they got talking and many brought with them family and friends which was great.
We also had great success here when the market held special events for parents and children such as the ‘Duck race’ where lots of families were delighted when they tried our fantastic pulled pork. However a lot of kids can be a bit fussy when it comes to food so that’s when we decided to start selling our signature mac & cheese too. This always goes down great with parents and children alike. People just love how creamy and indulgent it is, also if you get it alongside some pulled pork and maybe a drink too, it provides you with a fantastic, comforting and filling meal!
We decided to stop trading here as it came into the summer as we had more private events during the busy summer months.
Saturday is the largest general market day with over 150 stalls. There are many products and services on offer including plants and flowers, fresh produce, fashion items as well as toys and games.
Hitchin has been a market town for over 1000 years. It is one of the largest open air traditional markets in the country. Set in the medieval centre of Hitchin, by the river and next to the parish church.
